Church Corruption

Posted: March 19, 2013 in Uncategorized

I haven’t written a blog post in a while because my head has been in a weird place. Since the snow trip, my faith has been well & truly tested. I am in a place now where I am deciding whether to go back to church (which means find a new church) or to continue with my life away from the church (and its judgements).

My ideals of church is for there to be leaders that are approachable; confidants in a way that you get guidance from the leaders who have studied to help those living in the world. When I was growing up & a very devote Christian, I often wanted to go to a catholic confessional. Not because I wanted to be catholic, but because I wanted advice from a church leader.

I have been to many churches searching for leadership/guidance & haven’t found a homely church. This brings me to a film I watched today. It was called The Wave (Die Welle) a German film where a teacher is trying to teach his students about Autocracy (Dictatorship) & his unique way of teaching gets him into trouble, but just like the church leadership gets corrupted!

It made me realise that the Church is no different from the Government, corruption is inescapable. In the Bible the leaders of the Church want Jesus gone, many Jewish people think of it as just Jewish people wanted Jesus dead, but I don’t see it that way, I see this as the outcome whether it were English, African or any other country that so happened to be the setting for all that happened in the Bible.

I think the Bible was laying out for people to understand that the “Church” can get corrupt because people can be corrupted.

I also think that if all you knew was Christianity (in whichever form you belong) & then you walk away, especially if you lived into adulthood believing; it is so hard to go back & not see the flaws of blind faith.

The Bible is open to so many interpretations (including mine), but when leaders use it to manipulate young impressionable people how can God standby & watch?

**Spoiler Alert**

This is the final scene from The Wave, I am not saying that all Churches are bad, but leaders need to hear/see their people because blind leadership is corruptible & can lead to more people fighting against it.

I want to call myself Christian, but I know I am not. So instead I call myself human, living right by the world I am in & trying to find my own meaning. Does God exist? Were we created by a Big Bang? Do humans exist due to evolution? Was there ever Adam & Eve? Why was religion even started?

So I leave you with this from the Bible:

If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. (1 Timothy 6:3-5 NIV)
